Last updated 07/12/2020
Wearing a face covering is required by law on Luas and other public transport. Doing so will help protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
Wearing a face covering on public transport is required by law from Mon 13th Jul. Wearing a face covering helps to prevent people who do not know they have the virus from spreading it to others. It does this by reducing the spread of respiratory droplets from people infected with COVID-19.
Along with wearing a face covering, you should still do the important things necessary to prevent the spread of the virus, these include:
- Practising good hand hygiene
- Practising good respiratory etiquette by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough and sneeze
- Not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth
- Keeping space between yourself and others.
Gardaí can now issue fines of €80 if you are not wearing a face covering while travelling on Luas.
For more information on wearing a face covering, who should and should not wear a face covering, and the correct way to wear one, please see the guidelines from the Department of Health.
