As spirits lift around the country with COVID-19 restrictions gradually easing, we welcome the month of June which brings along with it a month of celebrations and reflection for the LGBTQ+ community. With COVID-19 restrictions still in place around large gatherings, Luas won’t be transporting you to the Dublin Pride festival this year, where thousands of LGBTQ+ people and allies of the community would normally come together to celebrate in person.

This year, the Digital Dublin Pride Festival celebrates the theme of ‘Community’, with events taking place online from Tue 1st Jun – Mon 28th Jun. The Digital Festival will include topics such as Machnamh Bród I (an old Irish concept including reflection and contemplation, here related to steps taken to challenge racism, misogyny, transphobia, and ableism), Culture, Arts & Heritage, Health & Wellbeing, and Community. The Virtual Pride Parade will take place on Sat 26th June, broadcast from The Round Room at The Mansion House as part of a full-day entertainment programme.

You can watch through Dublin Pride’s social media channels or by going to dublinpride.ie/live. Check out https://dublinpride.ie/events/ for the full list of events taking place during the Dublin Pride Festival.

Pride is sponsored by the National Transport Authority this year, and we at Luas are proud to support this years message of “Let’s celebrate how far we’ve come and join us on the journey to a more inclusive society”.

From everyone at Luas, we wish all our LGBTQ+ colleagues, customers, and all in the LGBTQ+ communities and its allies a Happy Pride 2021.
