Dublin SportsFest 2019

Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership is bringing back Dublin Sportsfest for 2019 after the massive success of the event in 2018. Dublin Sportsfest will take place from 23rd – 29th September 2019 coinciding with the European Week of Sport.  The purpose of Dublin Sportsfest is to host a week-long celebration of sport and physical activity in our city and to enable and encourage people to participate regardless of age, ability or background.

Increasing participation in sport and physical activity across all sectors in society remains fundamental to DCSWP’s over-arching goal. Dublin Sportsfest 2019 reflects this vision – themed activities range from women’s wellbeing and young people to disability groups, family groups, school children and older adults. The DCSWP’s role in supporting club development also plays a huge role during the week:  The ‘Grow Your Own Club’ seminar will be a highlight event offering local clubs expert advice and guidance from  key note speakers

We will also be linking in with pre-existing events and initiatives such as The Great Dublin Bike Ride and parkrun which DCSWP and DCC are partners/funders of both since their inceptions.

Dublin Sportsfest is a hugely powerful initiative to drive participation in within Dublin City and it is something that the former Lord Mayor of Dublin Nial Ring, strongly supported during his tenure saying:

“Sportsfest 2018 was, without a doubt, the best sports related initiative I was involved in during my year as Lord Mayor. There were so many events to participate in right across the city, there was no excuse for anyone not to get out and try an event. During Sportsfest, amongst other events like my usual parkrun”.
