Peak and Off Peak times refer to service frequency.

Peak times correspond to:

  • Monday to Friday: morning (7am-10am) and evening (4pm to 7pm)
  • Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays: 11.00am to 8.00pm

Ticket Vending Machines are located at every stop. They accept coins, notes, and debit/credit cards, and also give change. €50 notes are not accepted for purchases under €30. Ticket Vending Machines also accept contactless card payments for transactions up to €50. Please note that tickets may not be purchased onboard the trams. You must have a valid ticket at all times on board the tram.

You've been issued a refund ticket from our Ticket Vending Machine instead of correct change; this is usually due to that machine running out of coins. If this happens you have two options, you can go to the depot at the Red Cow or Sandyford Stops between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and we can issue you with your refund or you can post this ticket in to our address (found in the contact us section) along with your name and address so we know where to send it back to.

If you have any other queries regarding refunds please contact Luas Customer Service on 0818 300 604

Yes. If you are a holder of a PSC Free Travel pass (smart pass for Northern Irish holders), pass holders are permitted to free travel on Luas, we ask that you have your pass on your person at all times as tickets are regularly checked on board trams and you will need to present this if requested. If your pass states that it is a companion pass it is ok for your companion to travel freely with you for your journey. If you have any other questions please contact Luas Customer Service.

For any information relating to Standard fares please see https://luas.ie/sfn-appealinfo.html.

Alternatively, contact Luas Customer Service with your query: 0818 300 604 or email: info@luas.ie

Guide Dogs are allowed on Luas. Other dogs and animals are allowed on the tram provided they are in an appropriate enclosed pet carrier case / box. Their travel is at the discretion of Luas Staff.

There are designated crossing points at each Stop, where the track is level with the pathway. In the city you should also cross at pedestrian crossings, which usually cross roads and Luas lines. Remember to use the Safe Cross Code when crossing.

If you require assistance there are a number of ways to get in contact with a member of Luas staff. This can be done by doing any of the following:

  • Call Luas Customer Service - Passengers requiring assistance should call 0818 300 604. Luas Customer Service hours are Monday to Friday between 7am - 7pm and Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays between 8am - 6pm.

  • Use the Emergency Brake Lever - There is an emergency brake lever located at every door which will cause the tram to Stop in the event on an emergency. False activation of the emergency brake will result in a fine.
  • Use the SOS Button - There is a SOS button at each Stop. Press the large Red button once and this will connect you to the control room, where you can speak with someone to request assistance. The CCTV system at the Stop means the staff can see who has pressed the button.

Include the tram no. & your location with a brief statement about the behaviour that you see. See luas.ie/luas-text-service-terms-faqs.html for more info on the Luas Security Text Service.

Red and Green Line Operating Hours

Busáras Stop is a 3 minutes (approx.) walk from Connolly Stop.

Most trams from Saggart will serve all stops to Connolly. Going to the city centre to get to The Point change to any tram marked The Point at any stop after Fettercairn. Or Use the recommended interchanges: Belgard or Busaras if you wish.

Check the on stop passenger information and the on tram displays for information.

To get from Fettercairn to Tallaght Hospital you have to change at Belgard Interchange and board next tram going towards Tallaght.

To ensure that you have a valid ticket for travel, you must Touch On your TFI Leap Card at the Luas Stop using a Luas Validator before getting on the tram, and Touch Off using a Luas Validator at the Stop when you get off the tram.

If you are using both the Red and Green Lines for your trip, Touch On at the Luas Stop before getting on Luas and Touch Off after you get off Luas for the first part of your trip. After you change lines, Touch On before getting on Luas and Touch Off after you get off Luas for the second part of your trip. By Touching On / Off for each tram trip you will ensure that you have a valid ticket for travel and you will have the flexibility to change your mind about the 2nd part of your journey.

You can also Touch On before the 1st tram trip; change trams and Touch Off after the 2nd tram trip but be careful to not Touch Off or On by accident.

A working example of a trip using both lines from Balally to Heuston is outlined below. To complete your journey, you should:

- Touch On before you get on the tram on the Green Line at Balally Luas Stop using any of the Luas Validators at the Stop

- Touch Off after you get off the tram on the Green Line at O'Connell – GPO Luas Stop using any of the Luas Validators at the Stop

- Touch On before you get on the tram on the Red Line at Abbey Street Luas Stop using any of the Luas Validators at the Stop

- Touch Off after you get off the tram on the Red Line at Heuston Luas Stop using any of the Luas Validators at the Stop

A valid Luas Ticket, Valid Pass, or TFI Leap Card validated at Luas Stop is required to use Luas. Touch On before and Touch Off after every Luas journey at the Luas Stop to have a validated TFI Leap Card for your journey. Failure to produce a valid ticket or validated TFI Leap Card when asked to do so by authorised Luas staff will result in you being issued with a Standard Fare Notice for €100.

Always check the Validator screen and listen for the Validator tone to confirm you have Touched On or Off correctly.

If you are unsure whether your TFI Leap Card is Touched On or Off, you can check this using a Ticket Machine at any Luas Stop. Do not use a validator to check the status of your TFI Leap Card as this may result in your card being Touched On or Off. Luas does not issue refunds for incorrect use of TFI Leap Card.

Your TFI Leap Card will automatically Touch Off on Luas after 120 mins but you will be charged the maximum fare.

From Mon 9th May 2022, TFI Leap Card Fares changed on Luas and other public transport services in the Dublin area.

  • TFI 90 Minute Fare: Adult €2.00 / Young Adult (19-23) & Students: €1.00 / Child: €0.65
  • Short Fare: Adult €1.30 / Young Adult (19-23) & Students: €0.65 / Child: €0.65

Additional fare information and eligible services can be found by clicking here.

A valid Luas Ticket, Valid Pass, or TFI Leap Card validated at Luas Stop is required to use Luas. Touch On before and Touch Off after every Luas journey at the Luas Stop to have a validated TFI Leap Card for your journey.

TFI 90 Minute Fare will apply to most journeys paid for with TFI Leap Card, including multi-mode or Luas multi-line journeys started within 90 minutes of the first Touch On. The Short Fare will apply to selected Luas journeys of up to approx. 3km. If your journey is on Luas after a journey on another mode, Touch On at the Luas Stop before getting on Luas and Touch off after you get off Luas.

If you are making a return trip using TFI Leap Card on one Luas Line and you Touch On before you get on Luas for your outward journey and forget to Touch Off, your TFI Leap Card will still be Touched On for 120 mins from the time you Touch On at the Luas Stop where you started your journey. If you start the return part of your journey and try to Touch On within 120 mins of the time you Touched On for your outward journey, you will actually be Touching Off and you will not have a valid ticket for travel and you may be issued a Standard Fare Notice for €100. You must always ensure that you Touch On before getting on Luas using a Luas Validator at the Stop and Touch Off after getting off Luas for each trip.

Always check the Validator screen and listen for the Validator tone to confirm you have Touched On or Off correctly.

If you are unsure whether your TFI Leap Card is Touched On or Off, you can check this using a Ticket Machine at any Luas Stop. Do not use a Validator to check the status of your TFI Leap Card as this may result in your card being Touched On or Off, meaning you may not have a valid ticket for travel or you being charged. Luas does not issue refunds for incorrect use of TFI Leap Card.
