International Day of Persons with Disabilities is on December 3 each year to promote the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities globally. The day aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities and to mobilise support for their dignity, rights, and inclusion in all aspects of society. It serves as a platform to advocate for equal opportunities, accessibility, and the removal of barriers that hinder the full participation of individuals with disabilities in various activities, including public transportation.

In the context of using public transport, such as Luas, International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD) emphasizes the importance of creating an inclusive and accessible environment for everyone, regardless of their abilities. This includes ensuring that public transport infrastructure is designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities, such as wheelchair ramps, audio announcements, and tactile paving. Awareness campaigns on this day also encourage passengers to be considerate and supportive, fostering a more inclusive and understanding public transportation experience.

In recognition of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD), a warm and embracing purple light now shines in our three Luas depots, symbolising our dedication to fostering an environment that celebrates diversity and inclusion for individuals of all abilities.

«There is no greater disability in society than the inability to see a person as more”, Robert M. Hensel
