The National Transport Authority (NTA) will implement a number of fare and ticketing changes from Monday 28 April 2025. These updates will affect ticket prices, the Luas Tax Saver scheme, and how certain tickets are structured and named.
What’s Changing?
- New Dublin Commuter Zones: Four new Dublin Commuter Zones will be introduced, extending approximately 50 km from Dublin city centre. These zones will include towns such as Drogheda, Navan, Trim, Enfield, Clane, Prosperous, Newbridge, Kildare, Greystones, and Wicklow.
- Fare Changes: Changes will be applied across various operators (excluding Dublin Bus and Luas).
- Ticket Layouts and Naming: Updates will be made to how tickets are presented and named.
- New Multimodal Prepaid Tickets.
New TFI Leap Card / Luas Daily Cap
The existing daily and weekly caps for Luas and the TFI Leap Card will be replaced by a daily multimodal cap. This means your daily spend on public transport using the Leap Card will be capped across Luas, Dublin Bus, and eligible rail services, rather than separately.
- If you’re using a prepaid ticket to travel to Zone 1, you’ll have unlimited travel at no extra charge on Luas, Dublin City Bus, and eligible rail services within the Dublin Zone 1.
- If you’re travelling using Leap Card credit, you’ll continue to benefit from the TFI 90-Minute Fare. This means you’ll have unlimited travel — at no extra cost — for 90 minutes after your first tap on. During this time, you can transfer between Luas, Dublin Bus, and eligible rail services within Zone 1.
Luas Tax Saver move to Irish Rail
From June 2025, the Luas Tax Saver Card will no longer be available. This will move over to Irish Rail. Final orders for Luas Tax Saver tickets must be placed with a May 2025 start date.
